With his 8 medal wins, his autograph value increases.

Michael Phelps has said in a few interviews, how few messages he got on his facebook before the Olympics. And the thousands and thousands of messages he gets now, and how he can't even come close to reading them all.

Well, with him breaking Mark Spitz record and winning 8 medals, his autograph value took a big leap, too.

There was an autographed trading card from 2004. It was being sold for around $25 before the Olympics. Now, it's selling for around $500.

It's speculated that the price could rise to close to a thousand dollars, and card collectors are saying they've never seen anything like it. The closest I can think to such drastic price changes, was when O.J. Simpson did his little murder thing. His cards and autographs increased in value significantly.

Donruss, the Arlington, Texas-based card company, produced around 300 of the autographed Phelps cards, and about 5,000 cards that weren't sign (that are called "common" in card collecting circles). The common cards went from being worth about $2.50, to selling for around $20.
